Hilary Henegar is passionate about hyperlocal living and empowering individuals to make positive choices that benefit themselves, their communities and the planet.
She is the former editor of Granville magazine, where she was nominated for three National Magazine Awards, among other accolades; digital editor of GardenWise magazine; managing editor of Pacific Yachting magazine; and associate editor of Western City magazine.
Hilary has been named one of Vancouver’s top social media innovators by BC Business Online. As @granvillemag, she was ranked among the top 6 Twitter users in British Columbia by Twitter Grader.
A writer, connector and social media lecturer, Hilary is a past member of the public engagement committee of the Vancouver Foundation’s Generation Green Awards and a volunteer with the communications team at the W2 Community Media Arts Society and W2 Media Cafe.
She also works with CreativeMornings/Vancouver, a monthly breakfast lecture series for creatives, as social media and public relations volunteer.
Hilary has given social media workshops for the Magazine Association of BC, the Alberta Magazine Publishers Association and W2 Media Cafe staff. She consults with individuals groups and individuals seeking to improve their relationships and reach in their community.
She is currently supporting Gil Yaron as campaign manager in his bid to achieve a seat on the board of directors of Vancouver City Savings Credit Union (Vancity).
She also interview Vancouver artists for a series of videos produced by Hot One Inch Action co-founder Chris Bentzen that document this unique moment in time for arts in the city.
Her deep knowledge of the Vancouver’s locally owned independent businesses, community groups and creative projects means she is often called to advise both residents and tourists on accessing the very best of the city.
Areas of interest include: urban food projects, independent food and retail outlets, local artists and artisans, public art and live performance venues, community events and niche communities of interest, bicycle commuting and more.
Previously, Hilary studied film production at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts and worked on sets, in film finance, did promotions and marketing. She lived in Hadano-shi and Yokohama-shi, Japan for a year and a half before travelling China. She moved to Vancouver, via Sacramento, California, on September 26, 2005.
